Wrapping up!!

Yahoo! I FINALLY finished! With 4 days to spare! Wow, that was quite the challenge!
I like learning and seeing everything even if I may not use it later, but at least I am more aware of what is out there. My favorite thing was ListenNJ and my least favorite was RSS & Newsreaders.
I think that OCL should be aware of all of what Web 2.0/ Web 3.0 offers and if it is something that is useful to the system, like ListenNJ, WorldCat or scanning, then it should be given as a "class" and learned.
So thanks to all who created this challenge it was quite an experience!

ListenNJ

Did it! It took quite a bit of work but I was finally able to get it to work on my computer.
I chose to listen to part of an old radio show they had call "The Shadow". It was very fun to
listen to and imagine only being able to listen to shows instead of seeing them.
ListenNJ has a quite a collection of "books" to listen to and the few that I was looking for were
"checked out" and so browsing around I ran across "The Shadow". I love books to listen to or old radio shows, so this I will certainly use again!

Podcasts

I don't know much about podcasts, so this was a bit confusing to figure out.
So I am hoping that I did this correctly.

http://odeo.com/audio/18675263/players

This should be something from NPR radio show. I remember listening to other NPR shows as I was growing up with my brother. So again this is just a bit of childhood memories for me.
Since I don't have a Ipod or an MP3 player, these are a bit like the YouTube to me. They are interesting but I don't have much use for them at this point in my life.

Tube and me

Here is a bit of one my favorite childhood book in video:

YouTube is a great site IF you have a computer, or at least an internet provider that can handle all the graphics. I only have a dial up service and so YouTube is not good for me.

Web Awards.....

Wow, that was interesting. There are quite a lot that I would never use but they were certainly fun to explore. I think, if I was going to use any of them, it would be the Google Docs or at least something near to it.
I will have to go back and check to see if they have change or added stuff to the site.

Web docs

Ok, I have added my name a poked around a bit.
The idea that a group of people can all work on a document at the
"same time" and not have to be in the same building would be very
useful. As a page, I don't have any need of this in my job, but it would
come in handy in my life with my sisters and our shore house and doing
a spread sheet on the renters or the work we have done through the
years.

Sandbox

Ok, Sandbox was fun. It is just like playing with a big word document with a lot of other people.
I didn't put in anything about my favorite foods, books or sports but instead my favorite object in my life at this moment, since I just got it on Tuesday the 13th!

Library Wiki

This was fun to browse around and I learned a few things about our system's history.
I did click on the tabs but wasn't able to figure out what was what really as far as the "changes" go in the history. I did see where Sparks was changed but as guessing on who changed the information, I haven't the faintest idea.
I do love seeing what "Wikipedia" has to say about things.
On a side note-
My high school is also listed in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conestoga_High_School

Library success

I did find a link on this wiki to be very interesting to me.

It was this one:http://libsuccess.org/index.php?title=Organizing_Library_Collections

I run across books every so often that I am a bit perplexed on why it got thrown in that section. I do from time to time question them and sometimes I am right and sometimes I am explained why it is where it is. So for me this was interesting.

Library 2.0

I read 2 of the perspectives. I like how Dr. Wendy Schultz basically states that even with all this new technology around us, a library is a building where people come together.
While putting books away, I see all sorts of people come in just to read a paper, meet with someone or just do a puzzle with their child. Yes, we should be aware of the new technologies and use them as we can, but not to lose sight that people come to the building for all sorts of reasons and a lot of times it may not have anything to do with how technologically advance our branch is.

Technorati

Well again this is a site that really needs to have a long look at, but for quick view this is what I found.....
I found this on a site called the Thinking stick.com and in turn it was found on someone else's site. I thought it was creative enough to post on my blog, since it shows just how connected people/blogs/podcasts/flickr/internet ect. are ALL really connected by peoples input.
As I went further, I ran across this other blog http://davidwarlick.com/2cents/ . He certainly has a way of "opening" your eyes to what Web 2.0 or all of this new techno learning. Take a look.

Del.icio.us

Well, this is certainly a site that needs lots of time to explore. I bounced around a bit on it and then decided to put in "Genealogy" and see what it would come up with that Google hadn't. Well, to my surprise it did show me a few other useful sites that I hadn't run across with Google. http://www.findmypast.com/home.jsp
I will have to explore it more when I have more time. It is very creatively set up and the format is something to get use to.

WorldCat

Worldcat is great! I put in my favorite author, Dean Koontz, and found that he had written a Christmas book "with" his dog, Trixie. The nearest copy is in Camden Library in Voorhees, NJ, about 46 miles away.

As far as filling in the paper for an ILL it has all the needed information, so that makes things easy for everyone.

NetLibrary

NetLibrary was easy to use. I found it a bit limited on items, like I put in a subject search for "Cats" and was only able to find 5 books.
So I picked one and played around with it. It was cool, and I can see it being very helpful if you are unable to get a acutal book.

Library Thing

Well, the Library Thing is a very interesting site. I did add 6 books to my list, so far, and looked around to see who else has read books from my list. Quite a few people have read the same books as me. I also added a couple of people to my friends list, added a few tags and put in my location as being from New Jersey.

2nd part of Techno Blog

Well, I was finally able to leave a comment on a fellow coworkers blog, but I was only able to do it from work. My computer at home does not like Blogger at all, it fights me everytime, so I gave in and found a bit of time at work to post my comment and this post.

Techno blog

I have been a big fan of computer technology since Windows 3.1 & Mac 7.5. I love being able to IM, email or post a message to people to keep in touch. I love that I have been able to research my family back 3 more generations in Scotland and found a family of 4th cousins living in England from one of those lines! All because of the Internet and the PC.
I love the fact that I can keep in touch with my family even if they aren't home because of mobile phone technology better known as cell phones.
I love that I work at a place where everyone keeps an open mind about new & old technology and are always willing to help out their fellowman in learning and or understanding it.

Finding feeds and news and.........

Ok, I bounce around a bit on the search engine Topix, and it was quite interesting to see just what would come up. It is a easy site to work with and I would use it again. I also went on Technorati and that wasn't too bad either, but I liked Topix better.

Make life "really simple"..........

Ok, I signed up to bloglines and I added 11 feeds.
For the challenge I did the following:
Asbury Park Press Newspaper
People Magazine
Up coming events at Lacey Library
and then I added a few coworkers blogs and
a few other feeds that bloglines recommended.
This was a bit confusing but once I got the hang of it
it worked out ok. Will I continue to use bloglines after
the challenge? I don't know yet. It is interesting but I
am not sure that it suites my style. Only time will tell.

Scanner and Me

Here is my scan-
I did this at home on my own scanner. I then cropped it and edited out items that I didn't want to show.

71/2 Habits

Hardest - Confidence - I just don't always believe in myself that I can do stuff.
Easiest - Play - I alway find a way to take time out and play!

First Post

This wasn't very hard but it was a bit confusing, but I was able to make it!
